Tanks in the Hedgerows (ABCT Co Attack)

The Company Leader TDG 18-10

You are the company commander of B Co, 2-7 IN. You have been operating in the Sherka Province of Urzustan, a military state under dictator rule with ties to other terrorist and near-peer adversaries of the United States. Over the past 24 hours, your BN TAA has been receiving indirect fire from the north. Your sister FA BN and BN FiST determined the point of origin (POO) to be a hill approximately 1000 meters outside of the town of Jurju. Human Intelligence (HUMINT) reports indicate that mortar teams use that hill and quickly displace to Jurju where a local militia tied to the current regime gives them safe haven. You report to the Battalion Tactical Operations Center (TOC) at 2300hrs to receive a FRAGORD.

Task Org

You are currently task organized 1x Tank PLT, 2x Bradley PLTs, your HQ Section, and priority support from BN 120mm mortars. All external assets are tasked to support your sister BN, 1-69 AR, who is decisively engaged to the west. You are your BN’s decisive operation, so if any assets come on station they go to you. But, your Battalion Commander warns you not to expect them.

Situation

S2 believes Jurju has a population of approximately 200-250. 15-20 of those are Soldiers with additional support from the Urzustan Royal Army (URA) that includes 1x T-72 and 1x BRDM. The Soldiers have AK-47s, 2-3 PKMs, and 1 Shoulder Fired Anti-Tank System. S2 templates the anti-tank system in the mosque providing fields of fire along the East to West running high speed avenue of approach (HSAoA). The enemy is likely in heavily defensible positions with 72 hours of resupply.

With the majority of their forces engaged with 1-69 AR, they do not have a reserve force. They may use the north running egress route. But, we expect them to stay and fight. They are one of the final lines of defense between our Battalion and the major city of Karesh, just 25km to the northeast. Combat vehicles cannot enter the city except from via the HSAoA. Dense hedgerows of grapes and fields of 6 foot high marijuana (their cash crop) surround the city.

Mission

You are the only company available. A Co is the Brigade Reserve for 1-69 AR. C Co lacks combat power due to yesterday’s operations. You must attack to seize Jurju and destroy enemy forces within the city to allow the rest of the Battalion to mass combat power and prepare for follow-on operations in the vicinity of Karesh.

Output Required

You have 15 minutes. Get with your CO HQs and Platoon Leadership to devise a plan. Use the graphic provided to draw your concept sketch. Prepare a FRAGORD for your Company. Include your analysis of enemy disposition, mission statement, a concept statement, and the rationale for your plan.
