Patched-Prairie (SBCT PLT Attack)

The Company Leader TDG 18-09

You are the Platoon Leader of 2nd PLT/C Co/1-23 IN fighting on the Korean Peninsula. You have an MTOE Stryker (SBCT) Infantry Platoon with an attached Engineer Squad equipped with an M1132 Engineer Squad Vehicle. The Korean peninsula has been divided since 1953. Over six decades of heightened regional tensions and economic instability led to the collapse of the northern dictatorship when their dictator died suddenly and without an immediate successor. At this time, the north’s nuclear program has fallen and radical groups to the north are moving to secure chemical weapons depots across the region. It is assessed that these enemy forces have already infiltrated into the Republic of Korea through maritime routes. You will conduct a Platoon Attack on a patched prairie (OBJ COLT) as part of a greater battalion operation in AO Freeman.

This is the first of our Tactical Decision Game Series. We are dedicated to providing practical, tactically focused, tools for your self and team development. This TDG was modified from a Platoon LFX conducted at Rodriguez Live Fire Complex. Some great officers and NCOs worked to pull off the best LFX I have ever seen. I specifically want to thank Capt. Stacy Sowders, Capt. Jeff Jennings, and Capt. Dave Horn for the products that I used to create a simplified version for this TDG. For an aggregated list of TDGs click HERE. Situation

AO Freeman is just 20 km South of the de-militarized zone (DMZ) between the two countries. It is believed that the enemy forces have indirect fires capabilities of 152mm howitzer batteries 20 km to the north of AO Freeman and Type 55 (120mm) mortars providing general support. The Enemy has a reserve platoon of motorized infantry with the ability to respond to the Patched Prairie (OBJ COLT) within 15 to 20 minutes.

Your OBJ, the Patched Prairie, is located on a valley floor and is about 1 to 2 km deep. The prairie contains a large portion of loose surface roads and dry river/creek beds. It is assessed that the Enemy has established their strong point within the Patched Prairie with a platoon (plus) sized element of light infantry paramilitary forces equipped with RPGs and AT-4 and minimal cached CL IV. The enemy is assessed to have emplaced wire obstacles around a hard-stand structure for additional protection. They have the capability to hastily emplace anti-personnel mines to create a more sophisticated obstacle belt. Organic 120mm mortars are within range to provide IDF support to the enemy in Patched Prairie.

Mission

Your platoon will conduct a movement to contact to destroy enemy forces vicinity of the Patched Prairie (OBJ COLT) NLT H-Hour IOT protect the eastern flank of TF Tomahawks.

Output Required

Within 10 minutes, give your solution in the form of a FRAGORD (Fragmentary Order) to your platoon. Be sure to include your re-stated mission, intent, a concept statement, a concept sketch (using the provided graphics), and the rationale for your decision.
